Ramveyor Piston Pumps:
The Alloy Ramveyor Piston Pump is used in instances where other pumps simply cannot get the job done. The Ramveyor is a high pressure piston pump. Applications where the Ramveyor has been successfully utilized would be pumping byproducts such as viscera, bones, rendering product, paunch manure, beef offal, chicken offal, and pork offal by-products. Other examples would be whole birds, fish, and fish carcasses.
Other pumps, including lamella pumps that Alloy offers as well, have fewer moving parts and lower energy requirements. However, there are instances where no other kind of pump can suit the application, namely, long distance and elevation pumping. Lamella pumps are limited in downline pressure over distance and are not the best option for complicated line turns and elevation changes. If an application has twists and turns, a Ramveyor is the answer to “push it to the limit” so to speak.
The Ramveyor pump itself, and the operation of it, are relatively simple to understand. The pump has an inlet and outlet knife gate, a pumping chamber, and a main ram piston driven by a cylinder, most often hydraulic.
The operation is as follows:
- Inlet Knife gate opens
- Main ram cylinder retracts, sucking material into the pump chamber
- The inlet knife gate closes
- Outlet knife gate opens
- Main ram cylinder moves forward pushing the product into the pipe line
- Outlet closes
Worth noting, on the Alloy pump, the product never comes in contact with the piston itself so we have less wear than on competitor’s piston pumps.
Alloy began building these pumps in the 1980’s and many improvements have been made over the years especially in regard to the control of the pump. The Allen Bradley PLC we currently use is far more reliable and the pumping control programming has been modified multiple times to improve performance and reduce down time.
